Circles of Return
Spring 2026
After a prolonged absence from exhibiting (since 2010) — years marked by an uprising, love, marriage, caregiving and profound loss — I returned to the studio changed. The figurative precision I had cultivated over years of practice no longer felt satisfying. What emerged instead was looser, more instinctive:
bolder strokes, a darker palette, the spontaneous use of charcoal and acrylic; gesture replacing control.
Only in retrospect did the work begin to reveal patterns. Looking across the canvases, a recurring form persists: the circle. Curves and arcs, rounded lines pulling inward, compositions in orbit, in motion. Not chosen consciously, but found. A sort of emotional processing, a hypnotic search for healing, safety and equilibrium.
The circle carries ancient weight: wholeness, containment, the boundary between self and world. It is the form of protection and the form of repetition — the mind returning, again and again, to what it cannot yet release.
In the first circles I drew, I saw a bird… And they continued to appear - perhaps figures of guidance arriving from deep time. Their emergence opened a broader field of associations: birds as thresholds between life and death, as enduring archetypes and as figures of freedom across cultural traditions. I realized that they too, embody circular patterns… migration, flight and return.
This is a new chapter for my work and there have been starts and stops. But I persevere and look forward to sharing more soon.
